How verification works
This page is written for members: what happens when you press Verify, what AuthentiGate keeps, and what server staff can see.
Needs Premium
A server can only start ID verifications while it has Premium. In a server without it, /verify answers "This server has not enabled verification. Your profile roles still work: see /profile."
Step by step
1. Start
Press Verify on the server's Verify message, or run /verify in the server. Verification is always started from a server, not from a DM.
Verification
Open the link to verify with a photo ID and a selfie. Persona checks them; this bot never sees the images. It keeps your date of birth, the region and sex on the document, and a one-way fingerprint of the document, so one ID verifies one account.
The link works once. If it stops working, press Get a new link.
- Open verification opens Persona's page, where you photograph your ID and take a selfie.
- Get a new link gives you a fresh link if the first one stopped working. Each link works once.
- Cancel ends the verification. The link stops working, Persona is asked to delete anything it collected, and you can start again after 10 minutes.
If you already have a verification open, /verify gives you a fresh link to carry on: "Your verification is still open. Here is a fresh link to continue it."
2. Persona checks your ID
Persona runs the check. AuthentiGate never sees your ID photo or your selfie.
3. You get a DM with the result
Verification
You are verified. Your roles are updated in the servers that use them.
The other results you can get:
Verification
Your verification needs a closer look. You will hear back here when it is decided.
Verification
Your verification was not accepted. If you think this is a mistake, contact support.
Verification
Your verification could not be completed. You can try again with /verify.
Make sure your DMs are open for the server, or you may miss the result. Your roles are given either way.
4. You get your roles
Once verified, you get the roles each server has set up for you, in every server that uses AuthentiGate (with Premium). You only verify once.
| Role category | What decides it |
|---|---|
| Verified | You are verified and meet the server's age requirement |
| Age | Your age band: Under 18, +18, +21, +25, +30, +40, +50. It moves up on your birthday |
| Region | Where your ID is from: Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, Oceania, South America |
| Gender | Your choice in /profile (or your verified gender, if you pick Use my verified gender) |
| Pronouns | Your choice in /profile: He/Him, She/Her, They/Them, It/Its |
If a server has an age requirement and you're below it, the server decides what happens: either you just don't get the Verified role, or every role the bot manages is taken away.
What is stored
From the bot's own /privacy text:
When you verify, AuthentiGate keeps your date of birth (encrypted), your region and what your ID says about sex. Your name and your photos stay with Persona, who run the check. Your ID's number is turned into a one-way code, so one ID cannot verify many accounts, and the number itself is never kept.
Server staff see your age band and region only where their server has roles for them, and never your date of birth.
The full privacy policy has the details.
/profile shows everything stored about you, and lets you download it or delete it. See Your data.
What staff see
Staff with Manage Server or Timeout Members can use /inspect on you. They see your account age, when you joined, whether you're verified, and only the attributes their server has roles for: your age band if it maps age roles, your region if it maps region roles, and so on. They never see your date of birth.
