Getting started
This page takes you from inviting AuthentiGate to a working setup. It takes about five minutes. You need the Manage Server permission in your server.
1. Invite the bot
Add AuthentiGate to your server
The invite asks for these permissions. AuthentiGate never asks for Administrator.
| Permission | What it is used for |
|---|---|
| View Channels Send Messages | Posting panels, log entries, the Verify message and ticket messages |
| Read Message History | Purge, and ticket transcripts |
| Manage Roles | Giving verified, age, region, gender and pronoun roles; quarantine; temporary roles; creating log channels |
| Timeout Members | Timeouts |
| Kick Members | Kicks, and the join gates |
| Ban Members | Bans, softbans, mass ban, the spam trap |
| Manage Messages | Purge, and deleting a reported message |
| Manage Channels | Slowmode, lock, lockdown, creating log, ticket and spam-trap channels |
| View Audit Log | Recording bans, kicks and timeouts made with Discord's own menus, and the change log |
If a permission is missing, the bot doesn't fail silently. It refuses that one action and names the missing permission, for example "AuthentiGate needs the Ban Members permission here."
Tickets in threads
Ticket categories that use private threads also need Create Private Threads and Manage Threads in the channel the threads go in.
2. Move the bot's role up
Discord only lets a bot give roles that sit below its own highest role, and only lets it moderate members whose highest role is below its own.
Open Server Settings → Roles and drag the AuthentiGate role above every role you want it to give (Verified, +18, pronoun roles, your quarantine role, and so on). If you skip this, /setup marks the roles it can't give with
:
AuthentiGate cannot give the marked roles. Move its role above them in Server Settings, Roles; members get them at the next sync.
3. Create your roles with /setup
Run /setup. Pick the role categories you want in Create the missing roles for and the bot creates them for you. If you already have roles, press Choose roles to point the bot at them instead.
Server setup
Without premium, ID verification and the verified, age and region roles are off. Gender and pronoun roles work in every server.
Verified: not set
Age: not set
Region: not set
Gender: not set
Pronouns: not set
Age requirement: None. Below it: only the Verified role is withheld.
Roles are up to date.
Resync everyone
HelpSee /setup for every option.
4. Post the Verify message
Go to the channel where new members should verify (for example #verify) and run:
Both options are optional. The bot posts this message, and members use its buttons:
Verification
Press Verify to prove your age with a photo ID and a selfie. Press My profile to set your pronouns and gender.
Running the command again in the same channel updates the existing message instead of posting a second one.
5. Set up your log channels
Run /logs and press
Setup. Pick a category (or leave it empty to create a private Logs category that only you, the bot and your moderation staff can see), tick the logs you want and press Create. Each log gets its own channel.
The mod log is the most important one: every moderation case is posted there.
6. Choose your staff
Run /moderation, and on the Staff page pick the roles for each tier:
- Helper: warns, notes, timeouts, reading cases and the member panel.
- Moderator: also kicks, bans, giving and taking roles, purges and channel locks.
- Admin: also lockdown, mass ban, anti-nuke and these settings.
Anyone with the matching Discord permission (Ban Members for a ban, and so on) can act without a tier. See Configuration → Staff tiers.
7. Optional: Premium
ID verification, and the Verified, age and region roles, need Premium for your server. Run /premium to see the price and subscribe. Gender and pronoun roles, moderation, logs and basic tickets are free. See Premium.
You're done
- Members can press Verify or run
/verify. See how verification works. - Staff can right-click a member → Apps → Moderate, or run
/mod. See Moderation. - Add automation and tickets when you want them.
